CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Newberry College women’s golf team dropped three strokes from its first round score to finish in ninth place at the Wingate Intercollegiate Challenge at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation on Monday.

Newberry shot 663 (333-330) in the 36-hole event on the par 73 course. Karly Mims narrowly missed all-tournament honors with her second top 10 finish of the 2015-16 season. Her score of 157 (78-79, +11) tied her for seventh place, just one stroke out of the top five and ties.

Mims’ top finishes have both come in Wingate-hosted events, with the other top 10 coming at the Fall SAC Preview at Monroe CC, the site of next month’s South Atlantic Conference Championships.

Nabila Inak duplicated her score of 83 from Sunday’s first round and finished in 35th place with a 166 (+20). Annabelle Dallery and Taylor Lance finished in 47th with scores of 170 (+24) and Mariam Colon finished in 70th at 177.

Newberry will next compete in a dual against SAC rival Carson-Newman on April 2 as the Wolves and Eagles will play at Monroe CC in Monroe, N.C. The first tee times of the dual are set for 10:33 a.m. that day. The Wolves are then slated to play in Tusculum’s Agnes McAmis Memorial Tournament on April 4 and April 5 to wrap up the regular season.
