NEWBERRY — The Senn Freight Lines Holiday Hoop Fest featuring 15 games in three days was hosted by Newberry Academy last week, several local teams were in action.
On Friday, the Newberry Academy boys’ team lost in a blowout to Shannon Forest, 67-37. Wes Huffstetter led the Eagles with 16 points, followed by Matt Cole with 12 points.
The Lady Eagles also faced Shannon Forest and turned the tables with a 45-16 win. Daja Taylor and Kathryn Wilbanks scored 16 points each and had double-digit rebounds. On Saturday, the Lady Eagles and Lady Wolverines from Whitmire faced off, with Newberry Academy taking a 61-35 victory. Taylor again paced the Lady Eagles with 21 points, followed by Wilbanks with 19 and Kadence Sease with six points.
The Newberry Academy boys’ team played Saturday evening and beat Covenant Christian 43-28, despite trailing 17-14 at the half. The Eagles were paced by Huffstetter who finished with 25 points, and Bennett Connelly with 13 points. The Lady Wolverines faced Oakbrook Prep and lost 55-23. Kaylynn Roche finished with seven points for Whitmire.
