NEWBERRY – Bob Scanlon has been named publisher of The Newberry Observer and assistant regional director for the Carolinas Division’s South Carolina Region for Civitas Media.
Scanlon was named to his new position by Ralph J. Martin, CEO of Civitas Media, and Kent Kilpatrick, Regional Director of Civitas Media’s Carolinas Region.
“I am pleased to have Bob overseeing our newspaper operations in South Carolina and publishing The Observer,” Kilpatrick said. “His experience in the newspaper industry and involvement in the Newberry community will help The Observer better serve our customers. The news and events of our communities are very important to everyone. The Observer is their diary. We take this responsibility very seriously.”

Scanlon has been serving as group business development manager for the area since July 2014.
“The Newberry Observer has a great history in this county and I am honored to lead it,” he said. “We have a team that has already started a great transition to grow local stories and photos, improve the quality of our newspaper and engage our readers and the community. I am excited about what the future holds for The Newberry Observer and Newberry County.”
Prior to his time with Civitas Media, he was the regional advertising director for the Florence Morning News group and previously the regional advertising director for the Spartanburg Herald Journal.
