NEWBERRY —The Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors recently recognized three of its employees for their years of service to the Authority.

First up was NCWSA Assistant Manager Daniel Quattlebaum (10 years). Quattlebaum, born and raised in Spartanburg, is a graduate of USC Spartanburg (BA English — 1991) and Clemson University (MA English — 1994). He also served as a teacher at Pickens High School from 1993-97. From there, he took on the role as auditor with R.B. Crimmins Company from 1997-2009. That same year, Quattlebaum joined NCWSA as a financial analyst/assistant manager.

Quattlebaum resides in Newberry with his wife Sheron with their two children Leila Kate and Hannah.

Melissa Amick, Accounting Clerk (15 years), Amick was born and raised in Abbeville and from 2003-04 served as a Customer Service Representative with the Town of Prosperity. She joined the Authority in 2004 as a customer service representative/accounting clerk. Amick resides in Prosperity with her husband Chris and two daughters — Kristin and Jessica.

NCWSA Manager Brent Richardson (20 years), Richardson was born and raised in Prosperity and is a graduate of Clemson University (BS in Civil Engineering — 1993). From 1994-99, Richardson worked with SCDHEC as an environmental engineer associate and would later join NCWSA as a staff engineer, assistant manager and manager.

Richardson and his wife Ronette reside in Little Mountain and together they have three children: Elizabeth, Rachel and Jonathan.

In other business, Richardson presented the Board with the Construction and Operation Report for the month.

The Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant is in normal operation. A booster pump, two butterfly valves and two actuators are on order for the Macedonia Booster Pump Station — the items will ship in December.

From water distribution, there were three main line leaks reported at Pointe Circle Road, Jollystreet Road and Glenn Street Extension. Five new water services were installed.

Wastewater collected reported no main line leaks for the month. Pump station repairs included: Georgia Pacific (rebuilt pump installed), Seal King (rebuilt pump installed), Mid-Carolina Commerce Park (pump station wetwell cleaned) and Plantation Pointe (replacement pump installed). One new sewer service was installed.

In regards to the S.C. 202 — Little Mountain Line Relocation Project (which will require NCWSA to relocate water line and sewer force main to avoid interference with construction activity), Richardson reported relocation funding will be provided by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

NCWSA will also seek funding for relocation for the Jollystreet Road — Prosperity Line Relocation Project under Act No. 36 of 2019.

Quattlebaum provided the Board with the Financial Report for the month.

Water revenue came in at $299,869 for the month of October against $242,449 in water expense for a total of $57,420. Sewer revenue totaled at $92,928 against $108,214 in sewer expenses for a result of $15,286. Noteworthy items included in the report: Water Treatment Plant (WTP) chemicals ($17,000); Sewer treatment chemicals ($7,000); and Sewer pump station repairs ($16,000).
