NEWBERRY — Newberry College has announced that Dr. Teresa Smith will serve as interim vice president for administrative services and chief financial officer.

Smith brings over 30 years’ experience in higher education to the role.

“I am very glad to be here, as I enjoy the small college environment and the opportunity to meet and work with engaging people,” said Smith. “In the short time I am here, I want to be as impactful as I can for our students and my colleagues.”

The Anderson native comes to Newberry from Presbyterian College, where she served as interim vice president for finance and administration. Over her career as a finance and information technology consultant, she has also served as chief financial officer and chief information officer in an interim capacity at Northern Arizona University.

“We are so happy to welcome Dr. Smith to the Newberry College family, even for a short time, to fill this vital role,” said President Maurice Scherrens. “Her experience in higher education is invaluable, and we look forward to working with her to serve our students and the mission of the College.”

Smith earned her doctorate in education administration and leadership from Clemson University. She also holds an MBA from Winthrop University and a bachelor’s degree in business and finance from Lander University.
