NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Wolves’ football team has earned a bid to the 2015 NCAA Division II Football Championship and will be the seventh seed in Super Region II.

This is the first year of an expanded playoff field, with seven teams in each of the four super regions qualifying. Newberry will travel to Florence, Ala., on Nov. 21 to take on second-seeded North Alabama.

Kickoff time and ticket information will be released early in the week.

This is Newberry’s third all-time NCAA playoff appearance and second in the last three seasons. Newberry went 1-1 in the 2006 playoffs and 0-1 in the 2013 playoffs.

This will be Newberry’s third match-up with UNA. The Lions won 21-7 in 1991 and eliminated Newberry from the 2006 playoffs with a 38-20 win.

Newberry enters the postseason with a 7-4 overall record with a 7-3 record against Division II opposition. The Wolves went 4-3 in the South Atlantic Conference and won their final four regular season games.

North Alabama went 8-2 on the year with an 8-1 in-region record and 6-1 record in the Gulf South Conference, which was good for a share of the conference title. Newberry is 5-9 all-time against the GSC, including the key season-opening 31-28 win at Florida Tech.
