The S.C. Department of Commerce sponsored a manufacturer’s workshop for the Newberry County Workforce Development Council. Participants toured the Newberry County Career Center and were briefed on the programs that are available specifically for the manufacturing industry.

Whitaker Funeral Home sponsored Mike Meadow’s popular Mixology Lunch ‘N Learn was held at Main & Nance, Newberry’s newest special events venue. The crowd enjoyed lunch and samples of drink specials made by Mike.

The Quarterly Breakfast was also sponsored by Whitaker Funeral Home and held at Piedmont Technical College-Newberry Campus. Attendees heard from Highway Patrolman Joseph P. Morf.

Michelle Long accompanied other area chamber, economic development, and school faculty on a tour of Boeing in Charleston and learned about the economic impact of the facility and how they market to the future workforce.

Coming in December

Business After Hours will be held on Dec. 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be sponsored by and hosted at the Newberry Firehouse Conference Center next to the Newberry Opera House in downtown Newberry. It will be beautifully decorated for Christmas. All are welcome to enjoy fellowship, food, beverages, and door prizes.

Santa’s Workshop & Story Time will be held on Dec. 4, Dec. 11, and Dec. 18. A different craft will be available to children ages 12 and younger from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the portico of Community Hall. We will be able to accommodate the first 100 children. At 6:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. each of those evenings, a story will be read by Mrs. Clause in the lounge of the Chamber.

Gina Marie’s Café will open to the public on Dec. 1, but her grand opening and ribbon cutting will be Dec. 8, all day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. She is located at 1211 Main St. in downtown Newberry and will feature breakfast, lunch, catering, take home dinners, ice cream, soda jerk, and protein shakes.

The annual Christmas Tour of Homes will be held Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature three homes in the Pomaria area of the county and Enoree River Winery. Tickets are $20 each and available at the Chamber or Newberry Opera House.

The next Newberry County Young Professional Social will be held on Dec. 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Opera House. Folks ages 21 to 39ish who live or work in Newberry County are welcome to meet and greet. There will be a cash bar, appetizers from local establishments, and a toy drive for Toys for Tots. Wear your tackiest Christmas sweater for a chance to win a prize.

Decorate your home and/or yard for Christmas and enter the Christmas Lights of Newberry County. Again sponsored by Newberry Electric Cooperative Inc., there will be two categories: Traditional Christmas and Funky Christmas. Applications are available on our website, our Facebook page, and at the Chamber. There is no charge to enter, and there will be a $150 prize for the winner of each category. Have your application in by Dec. 15, for judging will be Dec. 16.
