Alex Ellison, Chase Hood, Zaviea Sanders and Austin Jenkins have been named to All-Star teams in the post season.

WHITMIRE — Three Whitmire Wolverine baseball players made the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Class A All-State team.

Junior Alex Ellison led the Wolverines in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs and ERA. Junior Austin Jenkins led Whitmire in wins, strikeouts and stolen bases. Eighth-grader Chase Hood led Whitmire in hits and runs scored. The three represent the largest All-State class in Whitmire baseball history.

The Wolverines finished the year at 12-9, 8-2 in Region IA (second behind Fox Creek). They were ranked 10th in the final regular season poll. They lost in the district tournament to Christ Church and Ridge Spring-Monetta.

Whitmire will return 14 lettermen and seven starters for the 2016 campaign.

“Next year has the opportunity to be very special. The players need to keep working hard and putting in the time. We will miss our four Seniors but are looking forward to what is ahead of us,” said Chris Martin, head varsity baseball coach.

One Whitmire Wolverine softball player was named to the Class A All-State softball team.

Junior Zaviea Sanders was named to the team by the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports (CAWS). Sanders is a stand-out centerfielder who led the Lady Wolverines in multiple offensive categories.
