CAMDEN, S.C. — Chapin Newberry officially punched their ticket to the 2026 American Legion playoffs after a dominate performance in their play-in game. Chapin Newberry Post 193/24( 7-10, 5-7 league 5) defeated Horry Legion(6-10, 5-7 league 1) 12-2 on Monday, July 13 to secure a playoffs berth.
It was a win or go home scenario for both Horry Legion and Chapin Newberry on Monday in Camden, S.C. at Camden Legion Field.
Duncan Blocker got the start on the mound for Chapin Newberry, and he came up big for his squad in this win or go home game. He only gave up one hit and allowed just two runs in his 5.2 innings pitched in this game. Blocker also had six strike outs.
It was a scoreless game at the end of the first inning, but Chapin Newberry Post would score four runs at the top of the second inning to give themselves a nice cushion. Horry Legion would answer at the bottom of the third inning to score two runs and trim the deficit.
Chapin Newberry Post would carry their 4-2 lead through the fourth inning, and then added two more runs for insurance at the top of the fifth inning. They would have a comfortable 6-2 lead at the end of five innings and would need to just hang on to it.
Blocker would run into some potential trouble at the bottom of the sixth inning after getting the first two outs of the inning. No worries though because relief pitcher Lawson Lawrence would come in and get the final out to get Chapin Newberry out of the inning. Then, their offense would have another explosive inning at the top of seventh by scoring six runs to close out the game. Horry Legion couldn’t match the 10 runs needed to extend the game and their season would come to an end.
Chapin Newberry Post had seven hitters in their lineup to record a hit in this game. Jaydon Glenn went three-of-four at the plate with two RBIs and he scored twice as well. Kaedyn Harris and Raleigh Salters each had two hits as well in this game and both had at least one RBI.
Chapin Newberry Post 193/24 will now turn their focus to Florence Post 1 in a best-of-three series for the opening round of the 2026 American Legion playoffs.
