NEWBERRY —Members of American Legion Post 24 recently organized, gathered and packaged items donated from the community to assemble care packages for soldiers with the 117th Engineer Brigade.

“I just want to thank the folks here helping us pack stuff up. We really want to thank the Newberry community for coming together to help these soldiers. These care packages – some of these things you can’t get in the middle of the desert – so we thank all of the community members that helped us with this drive,” Tim Erskine Jr., of American Legion Post 24. “This is the first time we’ve done this – the first time that the Newberry unit has deployed since I’ve been here in the last four years so it was a great opportunity for us to come together and support these folks.”

Erskine added that if there is a unit in need, they will definitely hold another care drive.

Some of the items included in the care packages include hygiene items, pens/paper, candy and protein bars, to name a few.
