Wolves fall to Carson-Newman after halftime battle

NEWBERRY — The Newberry College women’s basketball team fell to Carson-Newman University, 79–48, Saturday afternoon at Eleazer Arena. With the loss, the Wolves move to 13–13 overall and 7–13 in South Atlantic Conference play. Newberry trailed just 31–25 at halftime after a competitive first half, but Carson-Newman used a strong third quarter to extend the lead and pull away in the final 20 minutes.

Rickell Brown led the Wolves offensively with 17 points and 4 rebounds, while Marykate Kent added 12 points, 2 rebounds, including two three-pointers. Reghan Williams chipped in nine points and five rebounds to contribute on both ends of the floor. Newberry shot 70 percent from the free-throw line and finished with 31 total rebounds in the contest.

The Wolves will return home for their final regular season home game on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m.
