NEWBERRY — Brielle Mingo is quickly earning recognition as one of the most talented 8th grade girls basketball players in the Midlands of South Carolina. A standout for the Newberry Middle School Lady Tigers, Brielle plays under the leadership of Head Coach Shannon Reid, former NCAA All American and Pfeiffer University Basketball Hall of Famer.
On December 2, 2025, NMS defeated Pleasant Hill Middle School 30–17, and Brielle delivered an impressive 19 point performance in the Lady Tigers’ first home game of the season. Her strong showing solidified her status as a premier talent and a leading contender to become the top player in the Lexington 10 Conference this year.
Her accomplishments extend far beyond scoring. During the 2024–2025 season, Brielle was named NMS Offensive Player of the Year and earned the prestigious Academic Athlete of the Year award for holding the highest GPA among all girls sports at Newberry Middle School. She is also a Junior Beta Club member and has been recognized as Student of the Month, further proving her commitment to excellence in every area of her life.
Though modest and soft spoken, Brielle’s game speaks volumes. She is the complete package: an exceptional defender, a skilled ball handler, a selfless passer, and a shooter with a smooth, confident jump shot. Her leadership, work ethic, and character make her not only a standout athlete but also a role model for her peers.
The NMS faculty and staff could not be more proud of Brielle. To see her play is to witness a star in the making.
