NEWBERRY — Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority Manager Brent Richardson presented a water quality update to the Board Thursday evening.

“Our goal is to keep our TOC Removal Ratio as high as possible,” Richardson said. “We’ve been in compliance with our TOC removal for a while now.”

Richardson also discussed the TTHM Locational Running Annual Averages.

“TTHM’s, they vary so much with water temperature and we try to compare the same quarter of the year before to the quarter that we got results in and that’s the best apples to apples comparison instead of just comparing it to the quarter prior. We don’t want to see a trend where we are going up,” Richardson said.

HAA5’s are making progress and have gone up due to better chlorine residual.

“Overall, disinfectant products, we’re looking really good,” said Richardson. “We’ve also seen a steady increase in our water distribution residuals so we’re very pleased.”

Richardson also presented the Construction and Operation Report for the month.

He reported that the Lake Murray Water Treatment plant is running great.

“As you know, with all of the line breaks due to the freezing weather we ran the plant at a record high pace,” Richardson said.

He added that the old (mobile) laboratory will be relocated to NCWSA’s Wastewater Treatment Plant in March 2018.

There were a reported five main line breaks from the water distribution department at Deadfall Road, Halfacre Road, Ira Kinard Road, Whitetail Lane and S.C. 395.

Richardson reported that the Creekside Drive Sewer Extension (Bedford Way Subdivision) Project is now complete.

“The only thing that we’re waiting on there is that we’ve got to do a low pressure air test on that sewer line before we can submit the permit to operate submittal to DHEC,” he said.

The Cannons Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility resumed normal operations on Jan. 10. The annual digester/equalization basin cleanout is complete and dewatered sludge was transported to the Union County Landfill for disposal. The Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for the aerator in SBR Basin Two was recently replaced.

The wastewater collection department reported one main line break at Conifer Drive. Pump station repairs included a repair at Jalapa Road where a rebuilt 30 Hp pump was installed.

NCWSA Assistant Manager Daniel Quattlebaum presented the Board with the Financial Report for the month of January.

“On water, we had a real high month of water sales, $297,121 and on the expense side $197,735 for a positive result of $99,386. Expenses are trailing budget projection slightly, but we do have some fairly significant expenses in the latter half of the fiscal year budgeted,” he said.

Sewer revenue totaled at $210,044 for the month against $104,857 for a positive result of $105,187.

Quattlebaum also advised the Board that they are waiting to hear from USDA to schedule a pre-construction conference to give the green light to proceed with the Newberry Shores/Bedford Way Flow Diversion Project.

In other business, the Board approved the NCWSA Operating Policy after a motion from Board Member Jerry Koon and a second by Board Member Tim Nichols.
