NEWBERRY — Newberry College junior wrestler Trung Duong has been named the D2Wrestle.com Super Region II Wrestler of the Week.

Duong, a junior from Brookville, Va., went 4-0 on the way to the 125 lbs. championship at the UNC Pembroke Braves Classic, picking up major decisions over Coker’s Charlie Huff, Coker’s Mikel Nelson and UNC Pembroke’s Josh Brown.

He earned the win in the championship match with a medical forfeit over Belmont Abbey’s Michael Bedard. Duong is ranked fourth in the region and picked up a key win over third-ranked Huff.

Duong is now one of four wrestlers eligible for the National Wrestler of the Week award. Other honorees are Alderson Broaddus’ Mitch Spinks, Lindenwood’s David Hamil and Chadron State’s Terrance McKinney.

Duong and the Wolves are back in action on Nov. 14 at the Kaufman-Brand Open hosted by Maryville.
