NEWBERRY — Newberry College junior quarterback Raleigh Yeldell has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the ECAC office late Tuesday.

In the Wolves’ 41-7 win over Brevard, Yeldell completed 24-of-28 passes for 279 yards and five touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 228.3. He finished the game with 16 consecutive completions. His five touchdown passes tied him for the 10th-most nationally this season. His 85.7 completion percentage is the third-best in a single game by a Division II quarterback this year.

Joining Yeldell as this week’s ECAC Division II Players of the Week are Mike Zanders of Gannon on defense, Brandon Mansell of Gannon on special teams and freshman quarterback Mason Bendigo of Lindenwood as rookie of the week.

This is Newberry’s second ECAC football player of the week this year, as running back Romelo Doctor earned offensive honors for his performance in the Catawba game.

Yeldell and the Wolves battle for the Bishops Trophy this weekend, traveling to Hickory, N.C., for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Lenoir-Rhyne.
