NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Wolves’ wrestling team is ranked seventh in the preseason Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Poll, which was released Wednesday. The Wolves have two nationally ranked individuals in Huston Evans and Joe Pittman.

Newberry received 89 points in the voting as a team. Maryville (Mo.) is the top ranked team, receiving all eight first place votes.

Huston Evans (Springfield, Ohio) is ranked No. 2 at 184 pounds, dropping down a weight class after a national runner-up performance at 197 lbs. last year. The junior finished his first year in scarlet and gray with a 14-1 record, only losing in the national championship match.

Joe Pittman (Forsyth, Ga.) is ranked eighth at 174 lbs. after going 27-12 as a junior. The senior has qualified for the Division II national tournament in each of his two seasons at Newberry.

The Wolves begin their Super Region Two title defense on November 7 at the UNC Pembroke Braves Classic.
