NEWBERRY- The Newberry College men’s soccer team fell to Catawba College, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first half, the Wolves were forceful on the offensive side taking eight shots (three on goal). Lucas Ferreira, Mario Stojkoski, and Davis Bryan all took two shots each, while Ky Tyler and Nico Vallejos took one apiece. Newberry outshot Catawba, 8-7, and took six corners while the Indians took two. Brad Dixon made three saves in goal for the Wolves.

The score was held at 0-0 until just 16 seconds into the second half when Catawba got the first goal of the game. Sam Boggs scored to give them the 1-0 lead. Catawba held the lead tallying three more goals for the, 4-0, win. At the 47:05 mark, a Newberry player deflected a Catawba free kick into the Wolves’ net for an own goal. In the 59th minute, Kenny Bonilla scored off a free kick from 28 yards out before Kevin Scott scored at the 81:18 mark off a penalty kick.

During the second half, Newberry took seven shots on the Indians’ goalie. Jalin Butler took two shots against Catawba while Vallejos, Ferreira, Stojkoski, Tyler Lee, and Sterling Wendt got one shot each off.

For the game, Catawba outshot Newberry, 18-15. Dixon worked hard in goal making six saves.

The Wolves are back on the road on Saturday, September 19 to play Carson-Newman. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
