NEWBERRY– The Newberry Wolves volleyball team (5-2, 1-1 SAC) used a late momentum swing to beat Queens University (1-5, 0-2) in a South Atlantic Conference battle, 3-2 (26-24, 20-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-13).

Newberry fell behind after winning the first set 26-24. The Wolves lost the next two sets by a score of 20-25 and 16-25, putting them in a deep hole. In the fourth set the Wolves had a momentum shift after a pep talk from senior captain Rachel Moran. Newberry came out with fire winning the set 25-18 and the Wolves never looked back taking the fifth set 15-13.

The Wolves were led by Logan Hayward as she finished the night with 19 kills on 45 attempts giving her a .311 hitting percentage, also adding 24 digs and two block assists. Mary Siebert played a big part in the win for the Wolves, helping out with nine kills and 10 digs. Senior captain Alexus Horton contributed six kills, three solo blocks and two block assists. As a team, the Wolves finished with 46 kills on 139 attempts.

Meredith Jones led the way for Queens with 22 kills on 47 attempts giving her a .340 kill percentage on the night. Rebecca Cochran added nine kills on 43 attempts while Jessica Raines came in off the bench to add nine kills on 23 attempts. As a team, Queens had 63 kills on 170 attempts.

The Wolves will play again this Tuesday when they travel to take on Mars Hill in North Carolina at 7 p.m.
