WHITMIRE — Whitmire’s football program is coming off another successful season that ended with a first round playoff loss to Calhoun County. The Wolverines were loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and they now have the all-region selections to prove it.
Dierrius Dawkins, Keiston Sanders, Kayshaun Schumpert and Blake Stribble were all-region selections for region 3-A. All four players contributed on offense and defense for the short-handed Wolverines this season.
Dawkins made his biggest impact this year on the defensive side of the ball. The senior defensive lineman registered 18 total tackles, six tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.
Stribble did a little of everything for the Wolverines. The junior was voted a team captain, starting quarterback and started at linebacker on defense. He had 748 total yards(613 passing), 11 total touchdowns (six passing), 40 total tackles(tied for second on team), 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two fumble recovers, and an interception.
As a junior, Schumpert had a season to remember. He had 1,083 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and an interception. He also had four games with at least 100 yards rushing and a game with five rushing touchdowns.
Last but not least, ‘big play’ Sanders was one of the heartbeats for this squad. The senior returned kicks, ran the ball, caught passes and was one of the leaders on defense. He had 410 all-purpose yards(187 rushing, 116 receiving, 117 kick-return yards), 54 total tackles (led team), 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.
Congratulations, to the four Wolverines selected to the all-region team.
