NEWBERRY — Newberry College football players Corey Dover and Evan Sobocinski have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 team, as announced by CoSIDA Thursday.

Dover, a senior from York, is the campus vice president of Phi Mu Epsilon honorary mathematics society, is a math tutor for campus has been named to the Dean’s List in every semester eligible, is a two-time South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll member and has been named to D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. He also works with children’s ministry at Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.

He has a 3.68 grade point average with a major in mathematics and minor in business administration. He has 29 tackles this season with a tackle for loss and five pass breakups. This is first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor.

Sobocinski, a May graduate from Lexington, has been a consistent starter on the offensive line and earns CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the third time. He graduated with a 2.75 grade point average with double majors in business administration and accounting.

He graduated from the Summerland Honors program, is a member Phi Beta Lambda (Future Business Leaders of America), has been on the Dean’s List in every semester eligible, two-time honoree on the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award list and three-time honoree on the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll list.

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.

The Division II and Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program.

First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
