WISE, Va. — Sixteenth ranked Newberry College held off a late rally by UVa-Wise to take an 8-6 victory in the final game of the conference series and record their second straight series sweep.

Aidan Baur would lead off the second inning with a double and Tanner Lane drew a walk to put two runners on in a scoreless game. Collin Allman doubled to left-center to score both runners and give the Wolves the 2-0 lead. The Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1.

The Wolves responded in the top of the third. Kenney Bergman singled with one out and scored later in the inning on a home run by Baur, to make it a 4-1 game.

Newberry added to their lead with three runs in the fifth, to increase their lead to six. Beau Thompson singled to lead off the inning. With two outs, Nick Butler drew a walk and then steal second to put runners at second and third. Baur singled to left field to score both runners.

Wise scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, to cut the Newberry lead to just one run. An RBI single by Luke Orr in the eighth gave the Wolves some breathing room, and they would hold the Cavaliers scoreless for the next two innings, to take the victory and the series sweep.

Baur led the Wolves offense going 3-5 with a double, home run, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Allman was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Orr was also 2-4 with a double and one run driven in. Starter Ryan Harbin (3-0) picked up the win allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out seven in six innings of work. Josh Stempihar picked up his second save of the year, striking out one in two-thirds of an inning of relief.
