BREVARD, N.C. – Newberry College Wolves (9-14, 5-12 SAC) swept (3-0) Brevard College (10-14, 7-11 SAC) in a South Atlantic Conference battle in Brevard North Carolina Saturday night.
The Wolves were led by Madison Darby-McClure with eight kills on the night while teammate Maggie Marsh notched a double-double with 18 assists and 15 digs. Logan Hayward, Alexus Horton and Mary Siebert each added five kills for the Wolves. Samantha De Jong and Alexis Bryant each notched four kills on the night to give the Wolves a total of 33 kills in the win.
The first set started with the Wolves jumping out to an early 12-5 lead when a kill by Alexis Bryant gave the Wolves the 13-6 lead. The Wolves would hold their lead in the middle of the set and push their lead to 19-10. The Wolves would go on to score six points to Brevard’s two points and win the first set 25-12.
The Wolves kept their offensive attack up in the second set but Brevard also started an offensive attack of their own which kept the second set close with the score tied at 11-11. A kill by Logan Hayward started a short run for the Wolves and give Newberry a 13-11 lead. Newberry never looked back after that as they won the set 25-21.
The third set started out almost the same way with the Wolves jumping out to an early 11-5 lead with a kill by Mary Siebert. Brevard started to come back but could only pull within five in the middle of the set which made the score 15-10. The Tornados would make another push but would fall short as the Wolves won the third set 25-22 and won the match 3-0.
