Arnoult, Dominick selected for Metro Bowl

PROSPERITY — Mid-Carolina High School seniors Blake Arnoult and Drew Dominick have been selected to participate in the 2019 Columbia Metro Bowl on Dec. 20 at Brookland-Cayce High School at 6:30 p.m.

Head Football Coach Chris Arnoult said the Metro Bowl is something new that is being offered.

“This is the second year they’ve had it and they’re trying to focus on the teams in the Midlands area and give those guys an opportunity to show what they’ve got,” he said.

Arnoult (Blake) serves as fullback, defensive end and long snapper for the Rebels, while Dominick is the kicker for the team.

“I think it’s pretty cool to be chosen out of a select group of people that were chosen. I think it’s cool to be part of that and get to play with kids from other schools,” Arnoult said.

For both young men, they are looking at the game as if were a regular Friday night game.

“Just practice with the boys and try to get to know them better,” Dominick said on how he and Arnoult will prepare for the game.

Arnoult added it would take a little more work since they will be learning new plays. As far as preparing, he said he will be working to stay in shape.

“In between this time and whenever we play, I’ll try to stay in shape and I’ll just be ready for whatever they tell me to do,” Arnoult said.

Chris Arnoult said seeing two of his players representing Mid-Carolina made him happy, commending them for what they have contributed to the team.

“These two guys have done a lot over the last two years to get this program headed in the right direction. I’m very proud of them and the opportunity they’ve got,” he said.

As far as advice for preparing for the game, Arnoult said the two men will need to continue training (weight training, running, etc.) on their own to keep themselves in shape. He hopes that in the future he will have more players selected to games like the Metro Bowl.

“They just need to do what they do. They’re not going to get real complicated in the game. They are going to highlight what they were chosen to do whether it’s kicking, long snapping, playing tight end or whatever the case may be. Just do what they’re told and do the best they can,” he said. “They’ll have one of the best kickers in the state — kicking off, punting off, kicking field goals. I haven’t seen anybody with a stronger leg all year. Blake, probably one of the best long snappers in the state. He’s also a very versatile player — played multiple positions for us. He’s the kind of guy they could plug in anywhere at any time.”
