CHESTER — The Newberry High School Bulldogs defeated Chester High School in Round One of playoff action by a score of 14-7 Friday night.

The entire first quarter remained scoreless, but it was the Cyclones who recorded their first set of points for the night after Stan Mills ran the ball in for the touchdown with 5:26 to go before halftime. The extra point was good, the score 7-0.

Only a few plays later, the Bulldogs tied the game after a touchdown from Zach Chalmers and successful extra point by Rodrigo Nava-Munoz — the score 7-7 going into halftime.

Much like the first quarter, neither team would score coming back from halftime. The Bulldogs secured the 14-7 victory after O.T. Sims found the end zone with 3:33 left to play in the contest.

The Bulldogs will head to Chapman next week for Round Two of playoffs.
