MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Newberry softball placed three student-athletes on the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Southeast Region Teams with Natalie Willis and Hannah Davis earning First Team honors and Paige Meyer earning a spot on the Second Team.

First Team:

Hannah Davis – Third Base

Davis also earned first team honors after an outstanding first season with the Wolves. As a sophomore, Davis led the SAC with 15 home runs and ranks second with 54 runs batted in. Batting .373 on the season, Davis collected 47 hits and compiled an on base percentage of .474, a mark that ranks sixth in conference, while her .825 slugging percentage ranks third in the conference.

The Chapin native made 95 put outs and 68 assists in 168 total chances, committing only five errors for a respectable .970 fielding percentage.

Natalie Willis – Shortstop

Willis earned first team honors at shortstop after an incredible senior campaign. The Lexington native finished third in the SAC with a remarkable .419 batting average, collecting 67 total hits, including seven triples and two home runs, and a career-best 28 runs batted in. The do-it-all player also stole 16 stolen bases, a mark that ranked second overall in the conference.

In the field, Willis recorded 59 put outs and a career-high 94 assists in 156 total chances. Committing only three errors all season, Willis finished with a fielding percentage of .981 which ranked best among starting shortstops in the SAC.

This is the third straight season Willis has earned D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors, being named to the second team in each of her past two seasons.

Second Team:

Paige Meyer – Utility/Non-Pitcher

Meyer earned second team honors at the utility/non-pitcher spot after splitting time playing in the outfield and at second base. Serving as the primary lead-off hitter for the Wolves, Meyer collected 54 hits with a .348 batting average. The Georgetown, Indiana native compiled both an eight-game hitting streak and an 11-game stretch of successfully reaching base.

The sophomore recorded fielding percentages of 1.000 in the outfield and .974 at second base for a total of .978 on the season. Meyer’s eight assists at second base in a game against USC Aiken were the most single-game assists by a Newberry player this season.

Willis and Davis will move on to the All-America ballot after being named to the first team. The D2CCA All-America programs honor student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The mission of the CCA is to encourage and promote Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.

The voting, nomination, and calculations are all conducted by the school’s sports information directors. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
