ROCK HILL — The Newberry women’s lacrosse team placed two athletes on All-South Atlantic Conference teams this season, with Chloe Wood and Adara Garner earning the postseason honor for their terrific play in 2019.

Wood was awarded a second team selection after her stellar freshman season, while Garner, a three-year starter on defense for the Wolves, earned an honorable mention nod.

Chloe Wood – All-SAC Second Team Midfielder

Newberry’s star freshman led the way for the Wolves with an incredible season on the offensive end, pouring in a team-high 59 goals to go along with 15 assists. Her 74 points on the season are the most points in a single season in program history, beating out KerriAnn Barlage’s 60 points in 2014. She averaged 4.35 points per game, also the highest mark in program history.

Wood recorded hat tricks in 11 of Newberry’s 17 games this season, including posting a career high of eight goals against Tusculum. She also owns outings of seven goals and six goals in individual games. Wood’s 59 goals on the season ranked third in the conference and led all freshmen in the 2019 season.

The freshman’s 15 assists ranked second on the team behind Rachel Dillon’s 30, while she also led the team in draw controls with 84. She was fourth in ground balls with 37, while tying for the team lead in free position goals with 18.

Adara Garner – All-SAC Honorable Mention Defender

In Garner’s third season as a starter at defender for the Wolves, the senior was able to earn an honorable mention nod. She was stellar as the leader of Newberry’s back line, causing a team-high 27 turnovers this season, good for fifth overall in the conference.

The senior was tied for second on the team in ground balls with 45, a mark that tied her for eighth in the SAC. Garner was the anchor for a Wolves backline that rarely had substitutes, starting in all 17 games for Newberry.
