CAMDEN — Round one of play has wrapped up at the South Atlantic Conference championship at Camden Country Club, with the Newberry Wolves leading the pack with a team score of 278 (-2), the only team to shoot under par on day one.

The Wolves earned two of the top spots on the leader board through round one after stellar showings from Harry Boltonand Adrian Villiger. Bolton led the way on the day with an individual score of 66 (-4) to lead all competitors. The senior birdied seven holes, but his day was highlighted by an eagle on the par five 13th hole that helped him get out in front.

Villiger was extremely consistent on day one, shooting par on 10 holes through round one. Villiger birdied five holes on the day as well, finishing tied for second overall with a score of 68 (-2), two strokes back from his teammate.

Next on the leader board for the Wolves was Ben Thompson, who wrapped up his first round of play with an individual score of 71 (+1). Thompson was able to birdie on four holes throughout the day, helping place him into a tie for ninth place on the individual leader board.

Martin Moreno and Felipe Garces rounded out the day for the Wolves by posting identical scores of 73 (+3), placing them into a tie for 20th place on the leader board. Moreno struggled early, but recovered nicely on the back nine, birdieing on three holes to keep his score just above par on the day.

Garces played a consistent first round, birdieing on holes seven and eight before ultimately posting a 38 on the back nine to bring his score to 73 (+3). All five Wolves competitors end the day within seven strokes of each other, helping to give Newberry a six stroke lead in the standings heading into day two.

Coker currently sits in second place with a team score of 284 (+4), while Queens is close behind them in third place with 287 (+7).
