NEWBERRY — Newberry men’s tennis returned to the Oakland Tennis Center and took care of Benedict, 6-1.

The Wolves (6-4, 0-0 SAC) swept the doubles matches and went 5-1 in singles play. Jose Navarro and Sean Nguyen got Newberry started quickly, making short work of Julius Mutetwa and Taj Ballantyne with a 6-1 victory. Alex Amble and Lawrence Friedland closed out doubles play with a 6-2 win over Nikola Aleksic and Armondo Flores.

Edison Ambarzumjan continues his spectacular play in singles action, edging past Batsiraii Saurombe for the victory. Ambarzumjan won the first set with a 7-5 win before just getting by with a 7-6 set win. Navarro kept the momentum with he Wolves, demolishing Quentin Eloise with consecutive set score of 6-1.

Nguyen would have an impressive day in singles action as well, defeating Julius Metetwa by set scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Enrico Haas would match Nguyen’s set scores in a victory over Taj Ballantyne. Lawrence Friedland got the Wolves last victory of the day, just edging out Aleksic 7-5, 6-4. The Tigers lone came from Armando Flores winning consecutive 6-4 sets over Amble.
