CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Newberry College men’s and women’s cross country teams ran in the Queens Royals XC Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park on Friday, with the men finishing 32nd as a team and the women finishing 35th.

MEN’S 8k RACE

Charlie Cook was the Wolves’ top finisher for the third race of the year, coming in 152nd overall with a time of 27:37.4. Freshman Caleb Bouwkamp was 232nd at 29:05.4.

Seth Howe was 244th at 29:21.3, Robert Stafford was 270th at 30:10.1 and Peter Hackett wrapped up the team scorers at 30:33.3 for 279th.

Newberry finished 32nd overall and 21st among Division II schools.

WOMEN’S 5k RACE

Danielle Cruz led the Wolves with a time of 21:23.8 to finish in 181st overall. Michelle Ling ran the race in 22:45.0 to finish 239th and Makaylyn Higgins was 280th at 24:02.7.

Rebecca Burkhardt was 287th at 24:14.4 and Diana Terrell rounded out Newberry team scorers at 300th at 25:28.8.

The Wolves finished ahead of two other teams in a massive field.

The Wolves’ next action is scheduled to be the College of Charleston Invitational next Friday.
