NEWBERRY — Wolves third set momentum not enough as they fall to Queens in four sets despite at the Eleazer Arena.
Newberry (7-10, 2-8 SAC) posted set scores of 16-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 18-25. The Wolves were able to build off their second set momentum as they were able to capture the third set and challenge the Royals. Newberry fell behind early in the set, 4-1, before rattling off three straight points including two of Kensley Jordan’s four aces. The Royals were able to spark some offense, taking an 11-8 lead. Newberry was able to rebound as they scored four straight points with Olivia Kozemko scoring two service aces in the stretch. Neither team were able to pull away until the Wolves went on a 5-2 run to end the frame. During the run, Newberry got terminations from Vanessa Blas, Lacie Wood and Toni-Anne Whitlow.
Toni-Anne Whitlow had a stellar night, finishing with 19 kills. Blas added nine kills while Wood and Zoe Dinkins chipped in with eight apiece. Kozemko was able to orchestrate the offense effectively, having 31 assists.
Four Wolves finished in double-digit figures in digs as Jordan led the way with 21. Blas had 14 digs while Mykah Frazier had 13 digs and Mary Seibert with 10, respectively
Sidra Triplett had a productive night at the defensive side of the net with six block assists.
The Royals finished with a .259 hitting percentage to the Wolves .145. Queens also committed 12 less errors than Newberry.
