NEWBERRY — Newberry Legion Juniors lost the lead late in a 4-3 defeat to York on Monday. The game was tied at three with York batting in the top of the seventh when Mitchell singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Newberry Legion Juniors evened things up at three in the bottom of the sixth inning. Clayton earned the win for York. He allowed two hits and three runs over six and one-third innings. Howell recorded the last two outs to earn the save for York.

Luke Kennedy took the loss for Newberry Legion Juniors. Colby Haralson started for Newberry and surrendered three runs on one hit over two and a third innings, striking out two. TJ Hartline and Riley Summer had one hit apiece to lead Newberry Legion Juniors. Bryson Holland drove in two of the three Newberry runs.

Newberry Legion Juniors fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-2 loss to York on Tuesday. York scored on a double by Clayton, a walk by Adams, and a double by Robinson in the first inning.

The Newberry Legion Juniors struggled to contain the high-powered offense of York, giving up nine runs. York opened up scoring in the first inning. McSwain drove in two when he doubled.

York scored five runs in the fifth inning. Robinson, Brooks, Fulk and Mitchell all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Whitesides got the win for York. He surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Hayes Waites took the loss for Newberry Legion Juniors. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and four runs. Ryan Broussard went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Newberry Legion Juniors in hits.

York had 12 hits in the game.

Newberry finishes the season with a 16-3 overall record.
