Legion Ball teams come out with wins

NEWBERRY — Chapin-Newberry and Newberry Junior American Legion baseball each came away with wins on Monday night. Chapin-Newberry travelled to Greenwood and earned an 8-4 win. Jeb Fulmer got the win on the mound giving up two hits in four innings and Zack Frick got the save. Leading the offense was Chase Hood three for four with two RBIs, John Steven Trammel three for four, Aaron Copeland two for five with a double , and Robert King one for three with a double and two RBIs. Chapin-Newberry improved to 6-1 in League Eight.

Future games: Wednesday June 20 at BC High vs West Columbia 7 p.m., Friday June 22 at Sumter’s Riley Park vs Sumter 7:30 p.m., Saturday June 23 Riley Park vs Pitt County, N.C. 1:30 p.m., vs Troy, Ala. 4 p.m., Sunday June 24 Opponent/location TBD.

Newberry Juniors played Midland Valley at Newberry High School and earned a 15-4 win. Stanton Hester got the win on the mound with the offense being led by Gunner Erickson with a triple and Riley Summer and TJ Hartline with two hits apiece. With the win Newberry improves to 12-0 overall. Future games: Thursday June 21 at Lexington Ball Park Rd complex vs Lexington Navy 7 p.m.
