NEWBERRY — Newberry American Legion Post 24 Juniors took early lead in victory over West Columbia in the completion of a suspended game from June 1.
Newberry American Legion Post Juniors defeated West Columbia 10-2 thanks to a strong start from the Newberry offense. Newberry scored on a walk by Lawson Brand (Dutch Fork High School), a single by TJ Hartline (DFHS), a stolen base by Brand, a double by Riley Summer (Newberry High School), an error, and a double by Connor Gray (Mid-Carolina High School) in the first inning. Newberry secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the first inning. Brand, Hartline, Luke Kennedy (DFHS), Summer, Al Farmer (MCHS) and Gray all drove in runs in the frame.
Colby Haralson (MCHS) was credited with the victory for Newberry. He surrendered two runs on two hits over three innings, striking out three. Gunnar Erickson (Chapin High School) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. #10 led things off on the pitcher’s mound for West Columbia. He allowed 11 hits and ten runs over four innings, striking out one.
Newberry racked up 11 hits. Connor Gray, Riley Summer and TJ Hartline each collected multiple hits for Newberry. Connor Gray went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Newberry in hits. Riley Summer led Newberry with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.

Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Newberry American Legion Post 24 Juniors still held off West Columbia for a 5-4 victory on Wednesday. West Columbia scored four runs in the failed comeback. Dylan Johnson, Mason Eaddy, Ethan Murray and Alex Lewis each picked up RBIs.
Newberry got things moving in the first inning, when Jarrett Whitley (CHS) tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
Nic Demasi (DFHS) was the winning pitcher for Newberry . He surrendered two runs on two hits over four innings, striking out three and walking zero. Blair Rogers (DFHS) and Hayes Waites (MCHS) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Murray was on the pitcher’s mound for West Columbia. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out one. Bryce Metts threw two and a third innings out of the bullpen.
Whitley , Connor Gray (MCHS) and TJ Hartline (DFHS) each collected one hit to lead Newberry. Newberry didn’t commit a single error in the field. Whitley had the most chances in the field with nine.
Murray led West Columbia with two hits in three at bats. West Columbia didn’t commit a single error in the field. Johnson had four chances in the field, the most on the team.
Newberry American Legion Post 24 Juniors stand at 10-0 overall on the season and lead League 8 with a 7-0 league record.
