Haley Simonds named D2 Softball HERO of the Week

NEWBERRY — Haley Simonds was named D2 Softball HERO of the Week, which is an award from HERO Sports that recognizes the best individual performances of the week for NCAA sports.

Simonds was a force behind the plate, leading the charge for Newberry against Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson. In each of the games she nabbed at least one hit, batting a solid .545, sprinkled on a home run, and cranked out three deep doubles.

She collected nine runs, was walked three times, and her slugging percentage was 1.091.

Simonds received 61.9 percent of the votes at 234 total votes, going up against four other student-athletes.

The sophomore has tacked on yet another accolade for her performance last week after being named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Player of the Week for a second time this season. She has also been the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week and was recently named to the SAC All-Conference First Team at the DP spot.
