ROCK HILL — Freshman Kevin Clanton has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week.

Clanton, who became a regular in the starting lineup in early April during the Catawba series, went 12-for-19 (.632) with a 1.000 slugging percentage in four games at third base last week. He had at least two hits in all four games, including going 4-for-5 in two separate games over the week.

The Rockledge, Florida native had 11 RBI on the week, all during the Wolves’ SAC series at Anderson, including five in Friday night’s contest and four more in the rubber game on Saturday. He hit the first home run of his career Friday night, a three-run blast, then added a two-run home run in the third game of the series on Saturday afternoon.

Clanton scored at least a run in all four games during the week and crossed the plate six times overall. He stole a base in his only attempt on the week.

Clanton gives Newberry its second SAC Player of the Week (Colin Allman) and third conference player of the week overall (Derek Olenchuk, ECAC) this season. Newberry’s season continues Thursday night with a game against Tusculum in the opening round of the Pilot/Flying J SAC Baseball Championship.
