Wolverines top Lamar 2-1

WHITMIRE — The Whitmire varsity baseball team defeated Lamar 2-1 in the Class A District One Playoffs. Carson Gaffney (5-1) got the win throwing a CG, giving up five hits and striking out six.

The Wolverines got on the board in first inning when Austin Lanier drove in two runs with a hard-hit error. The Wolverines left multiple runners on base throughout the afternoon. Gaffney kept the Silver Foxes at bay for much of the contest. Lamar was able to scratch a single run in the fifth inning. Casey Stevens was the leading hitter going two for two, with a walk.

“Carson continues to shine. He is a bulldog on the mound. He gives us a chance every time he toes the rubber. Our offense put some good swings at the plate. We left too many guys on base. We do need to address a couple of things. However, we are so proud of theses guys. They are a team. They pull for each other and generally want to win,” said Head Coach Chris Martin.
