NEWBERRY — Whitmire Wolverines baseball team defeated Newberry 19-2 in six innings on Wednesday. Carson Gaffney (4-1) got the win for the Wolverines. He allowed one ER over five innings, striking out four with zero BBs. The Varsity team was led at the plate by Casey Stevens (2 for 3), Bailey Holloman (2 for 4), Justin Brannon (2 for 3) and Matthew Prather (2 for 3). Whitmire scored 14 runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.
“We did exactly what we needed to do offensively. It was great to see many guys contribute to the victory. Carson continues to give us a chance to win any time he is on the mound. The coaches love the fact that each player pulls for their teammates. We just want to keep it rolling and play together as long as we can,” said Head Coach Chris Martin.
Whitmire also defeated Greenwood Christian 11-6 in eight innings on Tuesday. The Wolverines got a solid start by Chase Hood. Justin Brannon (3-1) got the win throwing three shutout innings in relief. The Wolverines were led by Chase Hood at the plate who went four for four with a 2B, four runs, and four SB. Casey Stevens went two for three, RBI. Bailey Holloman added three RBI and Alan Mike Stanley had two RBI.
