NEWBERRY — Despite a close contest throughout most of the opening half, the Wolves fell short to Wingate 16-5 Tuesday night.

Sophie Moore delivered the first strike finding the net three minutes into the contest to put Newberry on the board. Alexis Kahler found Moore again minutes later to boost the Wolves lead followed by her own goal thirty seconds later to push the advantage to 3-0.

Wingate found their groove and scored eight unanswered goals to pull away 8-3 halfway through the first frame.

Helen Kuhn and Moore each tacked on another goal to make it 9-5 heading into intermission.

The Bulldogs poured on seven more goals to come away with the 16-5 win.

Moore led the team with three goals coming from four shots.

Newberry had trouble finding the net with 17 shots compared to 43 for the Bulldogs. Defense kept the Wolves in the game with Brandy Bowman collecting 16 saves.
