ELGIN — Newberry’s Taylor Lance paced the Wolves on the opening Day of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship as she positioned herself in a six-way tie for 14th. Lance parred 11 holes to finish Round One 8-over-80.

Nabila Inak finished the 18 holes going 10 over, two strokes from Lance at 82. She battled through a tough start and finished the back nine only two over par as she hit par seven times.

Johana Lunackova, Brette Bryant and Aubrey Guyton all battled through the tough weather that plagued The Members at Woodcreek. Lunackova is in a tie for 36th with a finish of 85, hitting a birdie on the 13th hole.

Bryant and Guyton finished with scores of 86 and 88 respectively.

As a team Newberry scored a 330 and finished in 9th place for the day. Wingate is currently leading with a six stroke advantage at 22 over par. Tusculum and Anderson followed closely behind the Bulldogs with finishes of 28 and 29 over respectively.

The Royals of Queens closed out the top five at 35 strokes over par.
