Queens top Newberry 13-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Newberry struggled to get an offensive run going in the match up against Queens’ University of Charlotte, dropping 13-1.

The Wolves (4-9, 0-6 SAC) were held to four shots in the first period, but would only see two be on frame. Strong defense by the Royals’ (7-5, 4-2 SAC) and turnovers proved to be the outlier in the first half for Newberry’s lack of scoring.

In a three minute time span during the second period, the Wolves would get off six shots. However, Queens’ goalie Anthony Valenza would be dominate between the poles and make four saves. With time dwindling down in the second, the Royals’ would give themselves a 4-0 edge heading into the half.

Held scoreless throughout the entire contest, Belton Bryan would record the Wolves sole point of the game. Newberry was limited to 22 shots throughout the contest, with 13 of them being on target. Goalie Erick Szurley battled in the net collecting 12 saves in the contest.
