Newberry announces date for Elite and Shooting Camps

NEWBERRY — The Newberry men’s basketball coaching staff have announced the date for its Elite Camp and Shooting Camp, which will take place on Saturday, May 19.

Elite Camp is designed to provide exposure for players in grades 9-12 that are looking to play basketball at the collegiate level. Shooting Camp is meant to improve a player’s offensive game. Both camps cost $50.

Elite Camp takes place from 9:00-11:30 a.m. on May 19. Shooting Camp will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. The camps will be limited to 100 participants. Last summer, the events attracted players from 13 states.

Newberry ranked No. 1 in Division II in three-point shooting in back-to-back seasons with an average of 14.2 treys a game. The Wolves took the top spot in several other statistical categories in conference including made free throws and offensive rebounds. Senior Rob Valentine finished his season in the top five in three-pointers made per game in Division II and collected several postseason accolades for his efforts. Newberry also garnered consecutive South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year selections in Marshall Lange and Max Miller.
