ANDERSON — A 6-3 win over conference foe Anderson was highlighted with No. 1 Amanda Carrillo’s three-set 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 thriller over nationally-ranked Laura Dean to clinch the match.

The victory put the Wolves on the 20-win mark for the season, going 7-1 in league play.

Newberry got on the board first in doubles action with the tandem of Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila taking the 8-2 decision in the second flight to gain the 1-0 advantage. Anderson fired back to knot it up at one apiece, but duo Carrillo and Marta Gomar earned the 8-6 edge to put the Wolves up 2-1.

Aguirre and Gomar garnered the next two points for the Wolves with No. 2 Aguirre going three sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 while Gomar won 6-4, 6-3 in the third flight. Anderson nabbed the victory in the No. 4 spot to close the gap to two before Carrillo clinched the match downing ITA/Oracle singles No. 59 Dean. Both teams would split the last two matches with Newberry’s Joelle Huelse winning in the No. 6 slot 6-3, 6-3 while the Trojans took the decision in the fifth flight.
