ANDERSON – No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan fought off a match point to win in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to help power Jordan Monosky to clinch the 5-4 victory over No. 29-ranked Anderson Sunday afternoon.

Duo Nikhil Mannepalli and Angel Pizarro put Newberry on the board in the second flight with a dominant 8-1 win over their Trojan counterparts to take the 1-0 advantage. Anderson would rally and take the next two matches to put them up 2-1 heading into singles play.

Anderson won at the No. 4 spot to extend their lead 3-1, but Newberry would not let it stay that way for long. No. 2 Jose Navarro started the comeback in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 tiebreaker to slice Anderson’s lead to two followed by Mannepalli’s 6-2, 7-5 decision in the third flight to even the score 3-3. Ambarzumjan’s win gave the Wolves their first lead of the match while No. 5 Monosky sealed Newberry’s fifth conference win of the season with the 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Anderson would take the remaining match, but it would not be enough to overcome the Wolves’ rally.
