NEWBERRY — The Wolves found themselves in a head-to-head battle with the Pioneers of Tusculum. Newberry would drop the match up in double overtime to Tusculum, 12-11.

Newberry’s defensive and offensive side held true throughout the first half, with the Wolves (4-7, 0-4 SAC) scoring the first four goals of the game. Belton Bryan headed the pack with his goal at the nine minute mark to put the team on the board.

Jeremy Ross would go on a scoring frenzy, tallying three consecutive goals to give Newberry an easy 4-0 lead. The Pioneers’ (4-5, 2-2 SAC) would get on the board in the second period, with a goal by Nate Wade.

The Wolves would continue their success on the offensive end, giving the team an 8-1 lead heading in to the half. Tusculum would head into the third period with much will power, dominating on both ends of the field. The Pioneers’ would go on to score the next seven goals and take the 9-8 edge.

Kobie Jordan would revive the Wolves with a goal at the four minute mark, via an assist from Ross. With the momentum on their side, Newberry would add on to their lead with a goal by Bryan. With just two minutes remaining in regulation, Daytin Vidovich would give the Wolves an 11-9 edge.

However, the Pioneers’ would find the back of the net twice in the last 57 seconds of the game to even the slate. The two teams would go scoreless through the first overtime period. Keegan Bell would be the savior for Tusculum in the double overtime contest, sailing a shot in with a little under three minutes remaining.

Ross and Bryan would lead the Wolves on the stat sheet, combining for 14 shots with nine being on frame. Goalie Erick Szurley would make 12 saves on the afternoon.

The Wolves return to Setzler Field on April 7 at 7 p.m. to take on the Bulldogs of Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference match up.
