DANBURY, Conn. — Derek Olenchuk has been name the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Baseball Player of the Week.

The senior left fielder went 14-for-23 at the plate (.609) with seven runs scored and nine RBI in a 3-2 week for Newberry that included a home win over Lincoln (Pa.) and a road win over Augusta in the same day. Olenchuk had multiple hits in every game, including two three-hit games and a four-hit game.

He began his week by going 6-for-9 in Wednesday’s pair of games, compiling seven RBI on the day to move within one of the national lead. He also went 4-for-6 in Friday’s 11-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, tying his season high for hits in a game. Olenchuk was perfect defensively on the week as well, finishing without an error in 11 defensive chances.

Olenchuk currently leads the South Atlantic Conference with 30 RBI and 39 hits on the season. His .406 batting average ranks third in the league.
