BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Following their win Tuesday at The Southeastern, Newberry’s men’s golf team has ascended to third in the Golfstat relative rankings.

The No. 3 ranking establishes a new program record for Newberry and comes on the heels of the Wolves’ one-stroke win at the tournament hosted by Valdosta State that included every team ranked in the top 10 in Division II at the time.

For the second straight week, Carlos Leandro’s par on the 54th hole of the tournament secured a one-stroke win for the Wolves, this time over top-ranked West Florida. The Argonauts bounced Newberry from the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in the first round of match play.

West Florida retained their top ranking in this edition of the Golfstat relative rankings and were followed by Florida Southern, which finished The Southeastern tied for fifth place seven strokes back of the Wolves. Newberry’s win catapulted the Wolves up eight spots from their previous No. 11 ranking.

The tournament win was Newberry’s school-record fifth of the season, the most of any Division II school and second only to Oklahoma State in all of four-year collegiate men’s golf.

Four Wolves are currently ranked among the 150 individuals in Division II. Spencer Skiff and Carlos Leandro are ranked 15th and 16th, respectively, while Harry Bolton checks in at No. 70 and Ben Thompson is currently ranked 112th.
