HICKORY, N.C. — Newberry mounted a comeback in singles competition with a 7-6, 6-4 decision from Angel Pizarro securing a 5-4 win over Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday afternoon.

Two points separated the Wolves from Lenoir-Rhyne, who was leading 3-1 in singles play before No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan pulled the team back within one in a 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 tiebreaker. Nikhil Mannepalli won his own 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 in the third flight to knot it up 3-3. No. 5 Jordan Monoskygave the Wolves their first lead of the afternoon in a two-set 6-2, 6-4 decision before Pizarro clinched the match. The Bears would take sixth flight, but it was not enough as the Wolves got the 5-4 win.

Lenoir-Rhyne garnered two of the three doubles matches with duo Mannepalli and Pizarro being the only victors in a tight 8-6 win.
