NEWBERRY — Collin Springer, Newberry High School senior, is heading off to Wofford College after he signed his letter of intent to play football next semester.

“Wofford just felt like home, they have a Division One football program, it is very competitive and it is just a good fit,” Springer said.

Springer has been playing football since he was eight years old, and has played as a long snapper for the Bulldogs.

“Collin is one of the best long snappers I’ve ever had, probably the best long snapper I’ve had, he really really worked hard at his craft. If he gets a little bigger, we may see him on T.V. on Sunday, he’s that good,” said Head Coach Phil Strickland.

Springer said he will miss his teammates at Newberry High, he said they are his brothers as they grew up playing football together.

While at Wofford, the 17 year old Springer will major in business finance, a major he said seemed like a good fit for him.

“I’m looking forward to getting a degree and making new brothers on the field,” he said.

Springer’s parents, Tonya and Gary, are proud of the hard work he has put in over the years.

“It’s a culmination of a lot of hard work he’s put in, and starting the next phase of a lot more hard work he’s got to put in. We are proud of him, he’s worked hard,” Gary Springer said. “We’d like to go to as many games as possible.”
