NEWBERRY — A 6-2, 6-3 decision in the third flight from Marta Gomar clinched the match for the Wolves in their 7-2 victory against Catawba.

The Wolves swept doubles competition with Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila putting Newberry on the board in the second flight with the 8-1 score. Duo Joelle Huelse and Rebeca Martinez added to the win column in the No. 3 spot 8-4, while No. 1 Amanda Carrillo and Marta Gomar rounded out doubles in a tight 8-6 match.

Catawba nabbed a win in the second flight to make it a 3-1 contest, but Carrillo made quick work of her opponent in a 6-2, 6-2 decision to increase the Wolves’ lead back to three. Gomar would follow to clinch the win while No. 4 Davila picked up her own 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Huelse would be Newberry’s fourth consecutive singles win with the 6-4, 6-4 decision. Catawba would take the remaining point to end the match at 7-2.
