Newberry overwhelms Eagles

NEWBERRY — The Wolves rebounded after a conference loss to take the 8-1 win over Carson-Newman at the Oakland Tennis Center.

Newberry took a pair of doubles points with duo Jose Navarro and Alex Amble taking the tight 8-7 decision in the final flight. Edison Ambarzumjan and Jordan Monosky solidified a win at the No. 1 spot with the 8-7 score. Carson-Newman capped off doubles competition with the 8-7 decision to make it a 2-1 contest.

The Wolves continued their success in singles action sweeping all six matches to walk away with the 8-1 win.

Navarro beat his opponent 6-3, 6-1 in the second flight to give Newberry the 3-1 edge. No. 3 Nikhil Mannepalli would follow closely behind with his own 6-3, 7-6 victory before Ambarzumjan clinched the match with a three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 thriller.

Angel Pizarro (6-2, 6-2), Monosky (6-0, 6-3), and Amble (8-7) would each add a point for the Wolves to close out the contest.
